Video Installations

A set of different video installations in the new foyers of Kriterion and De Balie will be exhibiting work from up and coming talent as well as work from established makers.

Installation: Doorskope
Frank Hesselink and Dorus Oerlemans explore the border between interactivity and narration. They show people who are struggling with themselves in a true cinematic way. ‘The Gaze’ is a subject which has inspired Frank and Dorus. For this machine they returned to one of their original fascinations: voyeurism. The installation suggests that while you can be an undisturbed Peeping Tom you might be looked at yourself as well.

Installation: NPS Mixed-Up
Dutch Broadcaster NPS invited a variety of filmmakers, dancers, bands and other artists to team up with video designers to make a series of interactive shorts. The films were originally made for the internet. During the festival they can be seen at computerportals in De Balie en Kriterion.
The Flow installation by Han Hoogerbrugge can be experienced in the foyer of De Balie during the festival. All the other Mixed-Up films are online and can be viewed through portals.
Flow
Interactive flashanimation by Han Hoogerbrugge.
Drift
Interpassive flashclip by Koert van Mensvoort, Artefact and Nancy Mauro-Flude
Spirits United

Zout
Animated poetry by Mark Boog and John van der Wens
Easy to Run

Installation: MyVu Lab

During the weekend MyVu Lab gives you the widescreen experience inside a headset. All you have to do is put on a pair of high-tech goggles and enjoy the shorts. If you really like them they can directly be transferred to your mobile device through Bluetooth.

Online Competition Portals
Both festival locations will have an installation of televisions showing online films. The online film has come a long way. Platforms such as YouTube and Google Video give everyone the possibility to show their movies to an almost infinitely large audience. Due to flighty surfing behaviour of internet users, makers have been inventing all kinds of new tricks to capture the attention of their audience. Thanks to this phenomenon the online film has become a genre in its own. Though digital recordings are can be pixelly the creativity more than often makes up for it. For Amsterdam Shorts! a special selection of online films was compiled. You can vote for the best online short at the television installations which you’ll find both in De Balie and Kriterion.
